Goodbye...

This is the last day... the end of the Museum. A sad day for the Rogers Family and for the fans.

I heard Dusty say that he went to a restaurant one time and found out they had changed the drink (a soda type drink, of course) named for his father "Roy Rogers" to "harry potter".

Well that's what's wrong today, parents don't let their kids watch good things like Roy. Oh, they are too violent, they talk about God, right and wrong, well, we just can't have it that clear, it's all relative, and punishing bad behavior and bad guys (they were probably mentally unstable at the time, so therefore should not be punished) well it's just not good for children, very harmful. AHHHHHHHHHHH!
Ah, but instead of that! we let them watch more educational things, movies that make them want to read, Good Wholesome family movies like harry potter... HOGWASH!!!!!!!!

Alright I'm finished raving for the moment :) Too bad the days of Roy had to go, but of course
they will be alive at my house always.

Hey let me know, Do ya'll hear a word and a song pops in your head?? I have that bad, all the time a word triggered a song like "always". When I typed it the song "Always" by Irving Berlin ( I love Irving Berlin) popped into my head and will probably be there all day:)

If I knew how to put songs on here I'd put Dusty's song "King of the Cowboys" a tribute to his father. Well I don't know how to do that but here's the lyrics:

He's rode across our silver screen
For over sixty years
He's brought bad men to justice
he's seen laughter he's seen tears
and I know forever in many hearts he'll reign
As the King of the Cowboys
There is honor to his name

He's a kind and gentle legend
a hero's right to fame
he's taught folks to see the right from wrong
And he's taught me the very same
And I know forever in many hearts he'll reign
As the King of the Cowboys
There magic in his name

Chorus:
He's the King of the Cowboys, a legend in his time
A man who loves his country
Where he will always ride
Saddled up on his golden Palomino
A six gun by each side
His spurs and boots and his white hat
Walks a man with a lot of pride

Chorus:
He's the King of the Cowboys, a legend in his time
A man who loves his country
Riding off into the sunset
In a western sky of blue
He has given precious memories
and Happy Trails for me and you!

~Happy Trails to you all~

Adventures in Friendly Club Forrest

A Jungle Window
Don't you just love this bridge?

Look before you step. What do you see??

I didn't see him and almost stepped on him before my brother stopped me.

Of course I had to stop and take pictures of flowers along the way:)

Deep in the (the hundred acre woods... ah childhood memories:) woods we found a little dam,

And on it we found this plack(sp?). Awesome huh, 1944!! World War II was still on. If anyone knows what the Friendly Club is let me know.

A giant pecan downed by hurricane Ike. Most of these picture look better bigger.

Same Pecan.

The depths of the woods. When you're there it takes you back to a different time. There's nothing but God's creation so it could be any era. This swampy looking place makes me think of the days of the underground railroad.

Suns coming down...

the end to a perfect day:)

It's snowing!!!!!!!

I'm having a ball, it's so much fun to have snow. Our's is still going hasn't stopped yet. I'm building a snowman, it's going to be the biggest one in Texas!!! Ok maybe not, but the biggest one I've ever made and only the 4th (2 in Tx.) one in my life.

Kinda looks like Jack in the Box:)

Very blurred pic I know but it gives size. It weighs a ton, I could hardly push it around when I was finished. It is the base, I'm about to go back out to do the rest of him.
Be back soon with more snow adventures. Merry Christmas
P.S. Snowman making tip: put on mittens then put rubber kitchen gloves over that and you'll bee warm and dry:)

Dreaming of a White Christmas

Howdy Ya'll

The forecast says there is a 20% chance of SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for Fri. evening. I hope I don't miss it if it does:)

Here's some snow memories

'04 the big snow(ha ha). It came on Christmas Eve. night for us, talk about story book perfect. All the neighbors were outside, throwing snowballs (including grown men, they were the worst:)or just standing watching it fall. We actually had enough snow (by rolling in all the neighbors lawns) for a snowman!

As you can see no snow remained on the ground during the day, He lasted 4 days though.

P.S. Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaiian for Merry Christmas:)

God's Chosen Race

I just read this article about Israel. It's very good, I just thought I'd pass it on. http://bible-prophecy-today.blogspot.com/2009/11/israel-inscrutable-enigma.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Fe

The verse below (especially the high lighted one) came to mind after reading the article. Is not Mark Twain one of our wise men and yet he did not know the answer.

1Co 1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1Co 1:19 For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE." 1Co 1:20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 1Co 1:21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 1Co 1:22 For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; 1Co 1:23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, 1Co 1:24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

RR & DE Musuem Memories

A few years ago our family got to visit the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Museums. We stayed at the Roy Rogers Bunkhouse.

It was awesome, all decorated in western style with lots of Roy and Dale pictures:)

They even had Roy movies for guests to watch, great huh.
I loved the shadow and saddle in the ceiling beams.

On the way into the museum.

This is the 1923 Dodge the took the Slye Family to California in 1930, Roy was 18 at the time. Slye is his real last name by the way.

Roy's Movie six guns!!!!

The Rogers' Family Table it was made for them by George Montgomery (a western star too).

"The Sons of the Pioneers" the best western harmony group ever! And they are still going, they started in about 1936. Of course the members have changed over the years. Roy, Tim Spencer and Bob Nolan were the founding members. Clockwise started with 12 O'clock Bob Nolan (he wrote a lot of their songs, his best known being "Tumbling Tumbleweeds"), Carl Farr, Llyod Perryman, Tim Spencer (also an author of their songs), Hugh Farr and Pat Brady. Not in this picture, Ken Curtis (of Gunsmoke fame), Ken Carson and Shug Fisher and a few more over the years.

Yes Roy really did Mount (he preferred not to say stuffed) Trigger "The Smartest Horse in The Movies"

And then they had to mount everybody else, Buttermilk (Dale's buckskin), Bullet "The Wonder Dog" and even Trigger Jr. in the background.

Sandy's display was one of my favorites, he's one of the 9 Rogers' children.

As you can see by his display he was just a good ole American boy:) Loved playing war games with his brother Dusty (Roy Jr.), and eventually becoming a soldier for real.

He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 (during Vietnam ).He died while in the Army though not from the war. He wasn't sent into combat because of disabilities, although he volunteered twice to go over.

And here is Dusty!

The museum which is owned and operated by the Rogers' family has a little show with Roy "Dusty" Rogers Jr. and The High Riders. I took this when we were there, the theatre lights are not good for photography. He sings just about as well as his father (but I still love Roy the Best), but Roy was much better at yodeling. Dusty's son Dustin now sings in the act, I haven't heard him.

One more shot from the show, the man in the hat is Gary LeMaster He was a member of "The Sons Of the Pioneers" for 20yrs. and he knew Roy.

Notice Dusty's squinty eyes just like his father, it's their Choctaw blood:) .It is sad knowing that the museum is closing, I planned on bringing my (in the future) children to the museum. But I thank the Lord for allowing me to go. It was like heaven for me, I just loved it.
Roy Rogers Jr. and the High Riders will still be singing somewhere, although the museum is closing.

I can't believe it's true : (

Roy Rogers and Dale Evans museum is closing!!!

So here's the beginning of some reminiscing:

Lyrics to "Happy Trails" by Dale Evans Rogers

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

(alternate verse)

Happy trails to you, it's great to say "hello".

And to share with you the trail we've come to know.
It started on the day that we met Jesus,
He came into our hearts and then he freed us.
For a life that's true, a happy trail to you.
